How about being prepared for the inevitable future?

When I can afford a Tesla, that money’s going straight to an EV swap for my MR2. I love electric cars but have had too many facepalm worthy experiences with Telsa to drive one.

Funny. After a million cars shipped, and yet nobody takes actual trips in the damn things....
And, it’s still supposed to “be the future”.
This is the same as a docking cradle for a Palm Pilot-- just waiting for the business to explode. But, it never did. We just kept buying phones.

There’s twice that many charger stalls at the one next to the Wal-Mart out here in the desert... Once in awhile you see a single car using it.
I’ve yet to see anybody using the “Electrify America” stalls. Wonder how that business is going?

I like your use of "when" lol I'll play too. When I can afford a tesla, I'm just going to put all that money into my Cayman as a track car and track time

Palm Pilot did explode. They just made the mistake of targeting the high-margin business market and then got swept away when Apple made a consumer friendly device (granted cell-providers were extremely hostile to the idea of consumer friendly devices as they cut into the carriers’ revenue streams, but one would think that Palm or Blackberry at their peak would have had similar levels of clout to force concessions as Apple)

Saw a guy driving one well below the speed limit on the 95 near Hite Marina a few weeks ago. 100 miles from anything. I’m guessing he was limping it to the chargers in Blanding. Southern Utah actually seems to have quite the charging network set up so people can tour the parks.

“When” is a great way to keep myself accountable. I’m 100% for more track time and track maintenance and upgrades too.
How have the track days been going? The videos on Instagram are fun to watch and make me want to get back to more autocross with my MR2.

Sorry— The reason I use the analogy frequently is because I was on the front lines on that one and saw the disconnect up-close-and-personal. You oversimplify what actually happened. For one, the timeline is way off.
Palm Pilot sales peaked in mid-2000. Apple iPhone didn’t emerge until 2007. The two events were relatively uncorrelated. Palm failed because it required users to rewire their life and expectations around mobile devices. Only Early Adopters really bought into dealing with the hassles. Nobody but the tiny sliver did that, much like only 0.7% of the USA is willing to deal with the bullshit of day-to-day EV ownership.
We’re about 5-7 years away from a fully electrified vehicle... in the meantime we’re doing the exact equivalent to what the early Palm pioneers failed to grasp.... we’ll buy hybrids by the tens of millions which will get more and more electrified. Much as people kept buying better and better phones— first with cameras, better organizers, better IP integration and eventually apps by the time the iPhone came out.
But anybody that says “Tesla is just like Apple” is completely missing the point.
You live in the EU? Your experience may be different due to government intervention-- but the free markets just aren’t ready to adopt enmasse, in much the same reason Palm Pilot never went mainstream. Their failure to do so cost me a fuckuva lotta money.

I used to say when but this year kinda fucked that all up.
Track days have just been getting exponentially better every time. Didn't really get addicted the first time last year but I'm full blown now. Too much so lol I want a harness bar, racing seats, harnesses, headers, GT3 LCAs, RE71R....
